Everything apix can do — HTTP, auth, environments and more.

Features

A full tour of everything apix can do — straight from your terminal.

HTTP methods

apix supports all standard HTTP methods: GET, POST, PUT, PATCH and DELETE.

Press m at any time to cycle through methods. The active method is displayed as a color-coded badge in the persistent URL bar at the top of the interface.

Query params & headers

Query params

Switch to the Params tab (1) in the Request panel to manage inline key=value pairs.

KeyAction
aAdd a new param
EnterEdit the selected param
dDelete the selected param

Headers

Switch to the Headers tab (2) to add, edit or remove HTTP headers. The same key bindings apply.

Common headers like Content-Type: application/json are set automatically when sending a JSON body.

Body editor

Switch to the Body tab (3) to write a request body. The editor supports:

  • Multi-line input — Enter inserts a new line with auto-indent
  • 2-space indent — Tab inserts two spaces
  • JSON formatting — Ctrl+f auto-formats the content as pretty-printed JSON
  • Save & exit — Esc saves the body and returns to the panel

Example body:

json
{
  "name": "Alice",
  "email": "alice@example.com",
  "role": "admin"
}

Authentication

Switch to the Auth tab (4) to configure authentication. Three modes are available:

ModeDescription
Bearer tokenAdds Authorization: Bearer <token> to every request
Basic AuthEncodes username:password in Base64
API KeySends a custom header (e.g. X-API-Key: <key>)

Authentication is applied automatically to every request once configured.

Environments

Environments let you define named variables and switch between them (e.g. dev vs prod).

Press e to open the Environments drawer. From there you can:

  • Create a new environment with n
  • Activate an environment with Enter
  • Add / edit variables with v then a
  • Delete an environment with d

Use variables in the URL bar with double curly braces:

bash
https://{{base_url}}/users/{{user_id}}

When an environment is active, variables are substituted before the request is sent. The active environment is shown in the top-right of the URL bar as [ENV:name].

Collections

Collections let you save requests and reload them later without re-typing the URL, method, headers and body.

Press c to open the Collections drawer:

KeyAction
aSave the current request to the active collection
nCreate a new collection
EnterLoad the selected request
dDelete the selected item

History

Every request you send is automatically logged. Press h to open the History drawer.

KeyAction
/Search through history
↑ / ↓Navigate entries
EnterReload a past request
dDelete an entry

The history persists across sessions and is stored locally at ~/.apix/history.json.

Response viewer

After sending a request, the Response panel displays:

  • Status code — colour-coded (green for 2xx, red for 4xx/5xx)
  • Method and elapsed time

Three tabs are available:

TabKeyContent
Body1Syntax-highlighted JSON response
Headers2All response headers
Cookies3Cookies set by the server

Additional actions in the response panel:

KeyAction
yCopy the response body to the clipboard
wSave the response body to a file

Cookies are persistent across requests within the same session.
